Fuck. Me.
June 29th, 2006 | Site Update

Okay. I sorted out the email problem. Now I’m sorting out the email. Jeeziz! There were 533 messages sitting there. It’s extremely confusing trying to figure out which ones are spam and which ones are legit. See above. The first “congratulations” is real. The second one is not. And “Don’t expose your intimate life!” is probably good advice for anyone who’s just published a memoir about their family, but it turned out to be a Cialis pitch.
There’s stuff here from childhood friends, relatives, people I went to high school with, people who’ve been to my readings, people who want to interview me…I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. Especially considering that I lost control of my personal, non-website inbox some time ago. I guess all this is to say, please be patient if you don’t hear right back from me. I’m on the job.

So sorry you have to deal with that whole mess! It looks pretty overwhelming from this side of it!

Just remember…at least you’re not having to weed through Bill Gates’ email. Or even Lynn Johnston’s

from Auntie to Ali…
Honey, that’s really not the best way to approach women. They like to feel alittle special, not like the offer is open to any and all takers.
and you know what? you are too funny.
I think YOU should write a comic strip.
(I see you’re getting some offers for low interest mortgages so, it’s not all bad, right?)

I got it down to 188 new messages.

Gmail is pretty good at filtering spam. I’ll send you an invite, feel free to delete it if you don’t want one. What I do is use an ordinary spam filter to forward everything that looks like spam to gmail, then gmail is pretty good at reverse filtering out the stuff that actually wasn’t spam.

Hey, you are doing great….188? You are fast!

Yesterday I pulled a Charlie Gordon and started a thread in my LiveJournal asking people to keep replying to a message to see what would happen. What happened? I got 85 messages in my e-mailbox in the space of an hour. No more of that for me.

I’m still getting a bounced email — I don’t see where I typed your email wrong. Here’s the message:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
dyke@dkyestowatchoutfor.com
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: DNS Error: Domain name not found
If you got the invite from gmail despite also getting that message (that happens sometimes) then you may still want to complain to your service provider.

Oh, you got “dkyestowatchoutfor.com” in there.

yeah, at a certain point it becomes ridiculous. also, the headers like “break down walls with your monster p3nis” don’t really do it for me.

I see someone’s already offered you a gmail account. It really does have a very good spam filter. Highly recommended.

“Don’t Expose Your Intimate Life” seems to be very common spam nonsense - I’ve seen it for years.
(Gmail is handy, though not necessarily that private - they read your mail to direct advertising.)

You might want to try Mail Washer, it’s free - http://www.mailwasher.net/ It automatically determines what is obvious spam and lets you delete it with a single click. Good luck!

spam sucks!
I had a similar problem, I use an online system called spamarrest http://spamarrest.com/. it’s fairly idiot proof as I am not very computer savvy. Good luck with the spam purging.

I don’t know if this will be helpful, however…
The email application Eudora (http://www.eudora.com) has builtin spam filtering.
And the more spam you get, the better the filter becomes.
Eudora has been my email application of choice for years. Its fairly simple to learn and use.
I would be happy to try and answer any questions you might have about it.

As someone has already mentioned, GMAIL is the way to go, easy to register, just find someone who has it and they’ll send you an invite, I’m sure that anyone here will gladly do it.
I’ve had it for 2 years now and have never recieved any spam of any kind. cHeers.

I haven’t gotten much done these days. So it goes. What can I say? I’ve just been letting everything pass me by. Basically not much going on lately, but it’s not important. I’ve basically been doing nothing worth mentioning.
