Fun Home the musical opened this week on Broadway, and my life has been a crazy swirl. The play is amazing, though perhaps I am not the most objective reviewer. But the real reviews have been very, very good, so maybe I am right. Anyhow, it’s all very crazy and unreal. But here’s a great video by Eva Sollberger, who does the “Stuck in Vermont” video blog for my local VT alternative weekly paper, Seven Days. She came down to the city last week to see the play and interview me and also another Vermonter who’s in the play, Oscar Williams, who plays one of my brothers.
Watching Eva’s video has somehow helped me to feel a bit more grounded in all this hubbub.

Hi Alison! My class and I are reading Fun Home in our Graphic Novels class and personally, I’ve read “Are You My Mother?”. I enjoy your works and am a huge fan. I deeply connect with the issues you suffered from and your works have truest helped me rekindle relations with my parents. I was wondering if you could please email me back, because I was wondering if you could visit my school and give a talk/signing. Thank you! (Also I really want to see the musical!)

I read the rave in the NYT. Zow! My husband said he heard one of the songs on the radio, the one about the woman with the ring of keys, so I hunted it up on the Internet machine. Aw!
At the library where I work one of our regulars showed me Are You My Mother? and said she’d read it three times. I couldn’t believe she didn’t know DTWOF, so I told her she had to read that, too.
Saw it Saturday night, last night of previews. It is more than good. It’s superb. Enjoy the whirl!

I saw the play at The Public, but the reviews make me want to see it again on B’way!
Yes Alison..it is a gift as you say in the video. Your life touching so many others. and as Oscar said, brave. The Keys song is beautiful, very emotional and I sure felt it. And sung with such passion! Take good care!

Wow – I just looked over the list of 2015 Tony award nominees, and I lost count of all the nominations for Fun Home. Fantastic! I’m totally excited, and I’m not even you 🙂
So the Tony nominations are out—damn being stuck in the Midwest!

Congrats on ALL the Tony nominations Alison! I knew the show was a winner after laughing/crying through much of it but these 12 nominations are further proof that Fun Home is the show to see. A show full of heart and truth with no need for big dance numbers or fancy costumes. Hope FHtM gets made into a full video someday so everyone can enjoy it! Thanks for making Vermont so proud and for letting us share in your successes. Cheers!

Saw Fun Home on 4/22. Loved it all, especially Ring of Keys. Love of my life was a UPS Driver and the song described her perfectly.

… on an unrelated note, astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti of the International Space Station is in the news again, this time for making and drinking the first cup of coffee brewed in space.
… and there’s a back story about the cup astronaut Cristoforetti is using to drink her coffee on the International Space Station. It was 3-D printed aboard the space station, and uses surface tension to keep the liquid in the cup.
Loving watching how the actual artwork Is done with brush and ink. Thank you, Eva, for including that footage. I feel Grace having watched this video.

Alison-Congrats! Butch lesbians/DTWOF on Broadway and now at the Tony’s. Best Musical 2015. So great to see you on stage and acknowledged for the groundbreaking work you have done for years. As a fan and reader of every DTWOF comic strip – well done. For lesbians of a certain age-we are thankful to you for seeing our coming out stories and coming of age stories in DTWOF, in Fun Home and now on stage-in a musical!

I will never forget how mind blown I felt after reading Fun Home with a neighborhood book club a few years ago. The book is deeply moving on so many levels. Thank you for sharing your story with the world and huge congrats to the whole Fun Home team. Hope the musical makes its way here to DC, I know it would be very well received.
