In which my mind is blown
November 11th, 2007
Thanks for all your compelling ideas about visual storytelling in the last post. What an excellent and oddly synchronistic conversation, given my recent activities.
Here I am having dinner with Chris Ware and Lynda Barry after our PEN/Faulkner panel on Friday. The guy with the camera is Dan Raeburn, who moderated the discussion. You can’t tell from this picture that my brain is exploding in a spasm of Read the rest of this entry »

comics in the classroom

I’m in DC. Tomorrow night is the graphic novel panel I’m doing with Chris Ware and Lynda Barry. Tonight PEN/Faulkner, the organization that brought us here, is having a dinner for us where some local comics experts are going to discuss “teaching graphic texts in the classroom.” Coincidentally, Read the rest of this entry »

cataphoria

My cat is displaying some drawing promise.
I’m getting ready to go to DC later this week to be on a panel with Chris Ware and Lynda Barry.
That’s about all I have to report. Oh. Except last night I had a dream that Hillary Clinton asked me to be her press secretary. I flew from Burlington to Columbus, Ohio last evening for the Festival of Cartoon Art at Ohio State University. I glanced out the plane window at sunset, and look! The Finger Lakes! I love how Read the rest of this entry »

I adopted a new cat last Friday. As you can see, though, she’s quite nervous, and is having a hard time adjusting to her new home.
Here she is starring in what I promise is my absolutely last Gerard Manley Hopkins poem set to shaky handheld footage of my yard.
If only because I don’t know any more of his poems.

On suffering

Somebody on the blog said they miss the sketch diary entries I was putting up for a while. I miss them too. I started one the other day about the two hours I spent sorting out a fraudulent charge Read the rest of this entry »
